Bath time as a ritual

For centuries, baths have been favored for their therapeutic benefits. This is reflected in many cultures, from Japan with sentos to Scandinavian hot springs. There are myriad bathing rituals that center around water as a cleansing part of our daily routine, and a channel for relaxation and de-stressing. But this goes far beyond merely relaxing us and providing muscle-soothing benefits; baths can clear your mind and promote mindfulness and calm.

If you've ever plunged yourself into a nice warm bath, you likely know the effects it can have on your body and the tension relieved. However, the benefits go merely beyond physical and there is research to support the positive effects that regular relaxing baths can have on the mind.

With the constant demands of work, chores, and social lives, it can be nearly impossible to find quiet time for ourselves, or for one-on-one bonding with our children. Daily bath time is a great opportunity to turn another chore we have before we can unwind into a distraction-free moment to slow down spend some quality time with our kids in a meaningful way.

Recently, one of our customers told us that she uses our products in a daily bathing ritual with her and her daughter. This opportunity each day to unwind with her daughter and a safe and warm environment was invaluable, and providing a fantastic opportunity to bond and grow closer together.

So make sure you take advantage of the time for some fun playing in the tub, cleansing your child’s hair and washing their body clean. Make a game of using the bubbles to put beards on each other, or playing with rubber duckies. By the time the bath is complete it won't even have felt like a chore! Your child’s dirty face and smelly hair will be clean and tidy, and their eyes will sparkle for hours after a special bath time.

For those without kids, use bath time as an opportunity to unwind and remove yourself from the distractions of the day. Try to disengage and remove any clutter or distractions from your life. Many people recommend setting yourself up for relaxation by eliminating your electronic device usage, too. However, for some of us this our electronic devices help us unwind by either watching something relaxing or listening to a podcast.

If you want to be a little extra, candles or oil burners can add another layer of calm to your relaxation journey. Great scents to use include lavender or chamomile. If you're a fan of bath bombs and salts, or additives in your tub such as oils, feel free to add them to the warm water while filling the bath. If you're looking for a restorative bath that can help ease sore muscles after a workout, try our bath salts which have soothing properties such as magnesium and rock salts. This is a great way to turn a relaxing bath into a muscle-soothing experience you'll thank yourself for later.

No matter how you go about it, soaking in warm water for even a brief period each day can be incredibly beneficial to both your physical and mental wellbeing. Taking time out of your day to practice some essential self-care can be incredibly good for you, ensuring you don't forget yourself along the way as you spend all day caring for everyone else!
